Omar Jassey brings a unique blend of finance, accounting, and research expertise. With over a decade of professional experience, Omar is vital in overseeing the organisation’s financial operations and ensuring fiscal responsibility while supporting ANeCS’s mission to promote innovative approaches to politics and security in West Africa.
Omar earned a Master of Science in Finance from King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals (KFUPM), a world-renowned business and financial studies institution, and a Bachelor of Science in Economics and Finance from the University of The Gambia.
Professionally, Omar has held diverse roles that showcase his financial acumen and dedication to governance and development. As a Faculty and Research Assistant at KFUPM, he conducted comprehensive literature reviews, managed data analysis, and supported academic initiatives. As an Auditor with the Gambia National Petroleum Corporation, he focused on governance and risk management, strengthening internal controls to optimize efficiency. Earlier in his career, he worked as an Accountant at Banjamba Construction Company, managing budgets and financial systems for large-scale projects.
He has advanced R Programming, E-Views, SPSS, and STATA skills and has contributed to initiatives like the Social Registry Survey and the COVID-19 Impact Survey. He is adept at using data-driven decision-making and statistical modelling to solve complex financial challenges. His dedication to excellence has been recognised through numerous awards for his contributions to research, econometrics training, and education.
With his leadership, deep knowledge of finance and economics, and a passion for fostering sustainable development, Omar Jassey is a driving force behind ANeCS’s financial strategy and its vision for a secure and prosperous West Africa. He is a Mentor under ANeCS’s Mentoring Peace Program.
