Launch of ANeCS and Webinar

October 17, 2024, marked a major milestone for us. We officially launched the Africa Network of Critical Security Scholars (ANeCS)! We were thrilled to bring together prominent thinkers such as Professor PLO Lumumba (Chair of the ANeCS Board) and Professor Richard Jackson (Board Member of ANeCS). We were happy to have 160 participants from all over the world for this event including ANeCS’ inaugural members and volunteers.

ANeCS is a dynamic and inclusive platform that seeks to amplify critical and decolonial perspectives on African security. With worsening security situations across the continent, particularly in regions like the Sahel, Horn of Africa, and Rift Valley, it is clear that traditional security interventions are no longer sufficient. ANeCS aims to bring together scholars, researchers, and practitioners committed to alternative approaches that prioritise the people and sustainable solutions.

Our mission is to challenge conventional security paradigms, promote collaborative research, and ensure critical knowledge reaches policymakers and the broader public.
